John Kahukiwa practises in commercial and property law advising private and business clients involved in a wide range of business and property transactions including business sales and purchases, business and company re(structuring), joint ventures, franchising, commercial leasing, estate planning and asset management,
John also provides specialist advice and advocacy for Maori.
John is of Ngati Whakaue, Tuhoe, Aitanga a Mahaki, Rongo Whakaata and Ngati Porou descent. He has a unique insight into issues affecting Maori and their needs for economic development and the ability to protect and honour their cultural identity and heritage.
His experience representing his people includes advice and advocacy on:
- Treaty claims and grievances,
- Management structures in relation to land utilization and development, e.g. trusts, incorporated societies and rating issues
- Maori business management structures,
- Protection of Maori intellectual property rights
- Contractual protection for Maori performers
